KUCHING – The Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE) and the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) have formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting graduate employability and widening job placement opportunities across Sarawak.
The MoU exchange ceremony was witnessed by Datu Buckland Bangik, Sarawak Deputy Secretary to the State Government (Administration), alongside other distinguished guests.
SCOPE Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Lim Jit Sek, described the collaboration as a strategic platform to ensure graduates gain comprehensive access to training, industry exposure and career opportunities.
He explained that the partnership would coordinate training programmes with industry support, thereby strengthening career pathways for young professionals.
“We are striving to create a comprehensive pathway that connects training, talent and job opportunities,” Lim said, adding that SCOPE is committed to producing graduates who are resilient, adaptable and competitive in today’s challenging job market.
Sarawak State SOCSO Director, Tan Phang Chia, reaffirmed SOCSO’s role as the supervisor of the national employment service, stressing its commitment to helping graduates and job seekers transition effectively into the workforce.
“SOCSO as the supervisor of the national employment service is very committed to helping our graduates to ensure that everyone who leaves higher education institutions obtains a suitable job,” he said.
Tan highlighted that more than 200 career programmes have been organised throughout Sarawak this year under the MyFutureJobs platform.
These include job carnivals, open interviews and career matching initiatives designed to connect graduates with employers.
He also encouraged graduates to take advantage of incentives offered, particularly those willing to work outside their residential areas.
The collaboration between SCOPE and SOCSO is expected to contribute significantly to the development of a skilled and inclusive workforce in Sarawak.
It aligns with the aspirations of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises talent development, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
Observers noted that the partnership reflects Sarawak’s broader commitment to preparing its graduates for long-term employability, ensuring they are not only job-ready but also equipped to thrive in a competitive global market.
