SEB and SABATI Donate Dialysis Machine to Lundu Hospital

LUNDU – Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), in partnership with Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-Isteri (SABATI), has donated a dialysis machine to Lundu Hospital, strengthening healthcare services for patients in rural Sarawak.

The official handover ceremony took place on 17 December and was attended by Puan Dayang Norjihan binti Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, who expressed support for initiatives aimed at improving dialysis treatment in government hospitals.

Lundu Hospital currently operates with only two dialysis machines to serve 62 patients. The addition of this new unit is expected to ease pressure on the existing machines, some of which have been in use for more than a decade.

Hospital officials noted that the donation will help improve efficiency and reduce waiting times for patients requiring treatment.

Dialysis treatment costs vary significantly depending on the provider. Private centres charge between RM4,000 and RM4,900 per month, while non-governmental organisation (NGO) centres typically cost RM1,500 to RM2,000 monthly.

In contrast, government hospitals provide dialysis at around RM500 per month, making public facilities vital for patients with limited financial means.

Since 2020, SEB has contributed eight dialysis machines to hospitals across Sarawak, including Lawas, Kapit, Bau and Simunjan.

This year, the company expanded its support with five additional machines, distributed to Lundu, Sarikei, Mukah, Miri and Bintulu hospitals.

In total, SEB has donated 13 units valued at approximately RM500,000, reflecting its ongoing commitment to community health and welfare.

The ceremony also included a visit to the hospital’s dialysis ward, where guests met with patients. Among those present were YB Azizul Annuar bin Pehin Sri Adenan, State Assemblyman for N.3 Tanjong Datu; SABATI Honorary Treasurer Datin Hajah Siti Shorgayah binti Haji Ahmad Zaidin; Lundu Hospital Director Dr. Chin Shi How; and SEB Senior Vice President of Corporate Services, Puan Hajah Siti Aisah binti Adenan.

The donation highlights the importance of public-private collaboration in healthcare, particularly in rural areas where access to medical equipment remains limited.

With demand for dialysis services continuing to rise, contributions such as these play a crucial role in ensuring patients receive timely and affordable treatment.
