KUCHING – The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Islamic Staff Committee successfully organised its annual Qurban Meat Distribution Ceremony yesterday, marking another year of community outreach during the festive season.
This year’s programme involved the sacrifice of two cattle, with the meat distributed to around 20 to 30 underprivileged recipients in Kuching.
The initiative was carried out with the aim of supporting families in need while reinforcing the values of sacrifice, sincerity, and unity that underpin the Qurban tradition.
The ceremony reflects SEDC’s ongoing commitment to community welfare, ensuring that the blessings of the occasion are shared with those facing economic challenges.
Organisers emphasised that the distribution was not only an act of worship but also a demonstration of solidarity and compassion within society.
Qurban, observed by Muslims worldwide during Eid al-Adha, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
In Sarawak, the practice is deeply rooted in local communities, with institutions and organisations often taking part in collective efforts to distribute meat to the needy.
The SEDC Islamic Staff Committee highlighted that the programme is part of its broader social responsibility agenda, aimed at strengthening ties between employees, the corporation, and the wider community.
By reaching out to underprivileged groups, the committee seeks to foster inclusivity and ensure that festive celebrations are shared by all.
Recipients expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that such initiatives ease financial burdens and allow families to celebrate with dignity.
The distribution also underscores the importance of corporate and community partnerships in addressing social needs across Sarawak.
The ceremony concluded with organisers reaffirming their dedication to continue similar programmes in the future, reinforcing the values of generosity and togetherness that lie at the heart of the Qurban tradition.
