See Chee How Urges Youth Empowerment at Zhan Clan Event

KUCHING – Sarawak Batu Lintang Assemblyman See Chee How has called on the Kuching Ho Kang Zhan Clan Association to place greater emphasis on nurturing the younger generation, highlighting the importance of education and professional development in shaping Sarawak’s future.

Speaking at the Association’s 2026 Lunar New Year Dinner Gathering, See encouraged the community to cultivate talent in fields such as technology, engineering, law, medicine, and business. He stressed that these areas are vital for producing the professionals who will serve as pillars of Sarawak’s development.

See described the current period as a “new golden era” for Sarawak, noting that the state is undergoing a successful transformation filled with opportunities. He emphasised that empowering youth with knowledge and skills would not only strengthen the Zhan descendants but also contribute to a brighter future for the wider community.

Reflecting on Sarawak’s progress, See credited the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari, under whom the state is advancing towards comprehensive development and high-quality growth. He pointed out that Sarawak is aligning with global trends through policies focused on economic diversification, renewable energy, and digital transformation.

He added that the state’s continued success depends heavily on the expertise and contributions of professionals across all sectors. At the same time, he praised Sarawak’s multi-ethnic harmony, stressing that unity among communities is essential for seizing opportunities and achieving shared prosperity.

Addressing the internal structure of the Association, See Che How remarked that elders represent the roots and foundation of the clan, while youth embody its future. He urged the Association to actively recruit younger members, promote leadership training, and balance these efforts with care for senior members, ensuring that all generations contribute to the organisation’s strength.

Looking ahead, See highlighted the upcoming 3rd World Zhan Clan Reunion Conference and the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Sarawak Ho Kang Zhan Clan Association, scheduled to take place in Sibu this October. He described the international gathering as a significant moment for the global Zhan community to unite and celebrate their shared heritage.

Meanwhile, Association President Johnny Chien Pik Ung expressed his hope that more young members would join and participate actively in the Association’s programmes. He encouraged them to harness their creativity and skills to become future leaders of the community.

Chien also noted the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, which has brought convenience to daily life. He emphasised the importance of integrating modern technology with the noble family values of the Zhan clan, ensuring that the community continues to make meaningful contributions to society and the nation.

He concluded by urging members to take part in the upcoming reunion conference in Sibu, reinforcing the Association’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions while embracing progress.
