Sejingkat Bridge Construction Faces Slight Delay, Now Targeted for Completion by Mid-2026

KUCHING: The Sejingkat Bridge construction project has reached 52.45 per cent physical progress, falling slightly behind its scheduled target of 59.75 per cent, according to Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo.

The delay, amounting to approximately 7.3 per cent, was attributed to technical challenges involving temporary works and the use of form travellers—specialised equipment essential for segmental bridge construction.

Speaking at a press conference during his recent working visit to the project site, Datuk Ir. Aidel revealed that although the revised completion deadline is set for February 2026, the contractor remains committed to finishing the project by mid-2026.

“The physical progress currently stands at 52.45 per cent compared to the 59.75 per cent annual target. This delay is primarily due to technical issues, particularly in works involving form travellers,” he explained.

To accelerate construction, the contractor is reportedly importing two additional sets of form travellers from China, a move expected to help get the timeline back on track.

Also present during the site visit was Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni.

The Sejingkat Bridge spans 1.28 kilometres, with a clearance height of 26 metres from river level and pylons standing 119 metres tall, and comes with a construction cost of over RM360 million.
