SEMATAN – Emergency responders in Sematan were called into action on Friday following a road accident near Kampung Sungai Kilong, close to the landmark Upturned House.
The Sematan District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed receiving an emergency call reporting a self-inflicted accident at Jalan Sungai Kilong. The incident involved a victim who was found semi-conscious at the scene.
Personnel from the Civil Defence Force (APM) Lundu Sematan unit arrived promptly and administered initial treatment before transferring the victim to Lundu Hospital for further medical care.
The swift response highlighted the readiness and efficiency of local emergency teams in handling urgent cases.
Authorities reminded the public that emergency services are available around the clock and encouraged residents to immediately report incidents requiring assistance. The APM emphasised its guiding principles of “Ready, Fast & Integrity” in ensuring community safety.
Road accidents remain a pressing concern in Sarawak, with rural and semi-rural areas often presenting additional challenges for emergency response teams due to distance and terrain.
The Sematan case underscores the importance of community vigilance and rapid reporting, which can significantly improve outcomes for victims.
Local officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution, particularly along village roads where visibility and conditions may vary.
Public awareness campaigns have been ongoing across Sarawak to reduce accident rates and promote safer driving habits.
The Civil Defence Force has also been strengthening its outreach efforts, ensuring that residents are familiar with emergency contact numbers and procedures.
In this case, the quick action of a member of the public in alerting authorities played a crucial role in enabling timely intervention.
Residents are reminded that for any emergency, assistance can be requested by contacting the Sematan operations centre at 082711292.
