Senadin's Ngiling Bidai Meriah Highlights Close Government-People Ties

Senadin’s Ngiling Bidai Meriah Highlights Close Government-People Ties

MIRI – The vibrant Ngiling Bidai Meriah Ceremony in Senadin was not just a cultural celebration, but also a platform to reaffirm the strong bond between the government and the people, said Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

Held at Dewan Dato Permaisuri Miri on Sunday, the event also spotlighted major upcoming development projects that aim to elevate Miri into an international-class smart city.

Smart City Near Curtin University

Dato Sri Lee revealed that the Smart City project near Curtin University, supported by strategic investments from China, will transform the area into a regional hub for technology, education, and economy.

“This development will create more jobs, attract foreign investors, and raise Miri’s competitiveness at both national and regional levels,” he said.

Senadin is experiencing rapid growth with existing facilities like universities, colleges, clinics, shopping malls, and residential areas.

Key Development Projects in the Pipeline

Dato Sri Lee also outlined several high-impact infrastructure projects for Miri:

  • Dredging and deepening of Kuala Baram access channel
  • Construction of erosion barriers
  • New cable bridge linking Kampung Pulau Melayu and Marina Bay, set to become an iconic city landmark
  • Over 100km of new roads to connect Miri, Marudi, Mulu, and Long Terawan, enhancing rural connectivity and tourism

Education Opportunities for Youth

Urging youth to seize educational opportunities, he pointed to the Sarawak Government’s free higher education initiatives at institutions such as:

  • Swinburne University
  • i-CATS University College
  • Curtin University
  • Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS)
