SERIAN – Work to upgrade the Serian Sports Complex officially got underway on Friday with a groundbreaking ceremony aimed at improving the quality, safety and comfort of the division’s main sports facilities.

The project briefing was delivered by Serian Division Public Works Engineer Ms Nurul Nabilah binti Abdul Rahim, who is responsible for overseeing its implementation.
According to the project schedule, construction began on 19 June 2026 and is expected to be completed on 18 September 2027. The upgrading works cover several key areas of the existing sports complex.
One of the main components involves replacing the existing running track with a new track based on the Sandwich System and designed to meet World Athletics standards.
The project will also include reconstruction of several athletics facilities. These include areas for shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, hurdles, long jump, high jump and pole vault.
The football field is also scheduled for reconstruction, with an underground drainage system to be incorporated as part of the works.
In addition to the main sporting facilities, improvements will be made to the complex’s existing toilet facilities. Trees around the complex will also be removed as part of measures intended to improve safety and the overall condition of the surrounding environment.
The project is expected to provide users with improved sporting infrastructure once the works are completed. The upgraded facilities are also intended to create a more comfortable and suitable environment for sporting and recreational activities.
The Serian Sports Complex currently serves as a venue for sports and community activities in the division. Its planned improvements are expected to broaden the range and quality of facilities available to local residents.
The upgraded complex is also expected to become a more prominent gathering point for the local community, providing facilities for different forms of sport and recreation.
The project forms part of ongoing efforts to improve public infrastructure and sporting facilities at the local level. Upgrading tracks, athletics areas, the football field and supporting amenities is intended to address both facility standards and user needs.
