SK Babang Saratok Nears Completion of Major DAIF Sarawak Project

SARATOK – The DAIF Sarawak (2022) project at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Babang, Saratok is progressing steadily, with significant new facilities under construction to replace ageing infrastructure. The initiative, managed by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, aims to provide a safer and more conducive environment for students, teachers, and staff.

The project involves two phases. The first stage includes a new three-storey block housing administration offices, academic facilities, and a canteen. A single-storey preschool unit, a dormitory block, and a dining hall are also being built.

Additionally, a two-storey building will accommodate six teachers’ houses, alongside a guardhouse, garbage collection centre, pump room, and mechanical and electrical works. Civil and structural engineering components are also part of this stage.

The second stage focuses on outdoor facilities, including the construction of a football field and landscaping works to enhance the school’s environment. These additions are expected to provide students with improved recreational opportunities and a more holistic learning experience.

As of 25 February 2026, the project has reached 83.34 percent physical progress. The first stage is scheduled for completion and handover on 30 April 2026, while the second stage is expected to be finalised by 31 October 2026.

The replacement project is part of Sarawak’s broader efforts to upgrade dilapidated schools under the DAIF programme, which targets institutions with poor infrastructure. By investing in modern facilities, the government aims to ensure that rural schools are equipped to deliver quality education in line with national standards.

Community members and education stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that the new facilities will not only improve safety but also create a more comfortable environment for teaching and learning.

The inclusion of a preschool unit and student hostel reflects a commitment to supporting early childhood education and providing accommodation for pupils from remote areas.

The project is expected to have a lasting impact on SK Babang, strengthening its role as a centre of learning for the Saratok community. With modern classrooms, improved housing for teachers, and enhanced recreational facilities, the school will be better positioned to nurture future generations.
