KUCHING – Students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Merpati Jepang recorded notable progress in the Classroom Assessment System (PBD) and the Sarawak Bilingual Programme Assessment Test (UP-DLP Sarawak) for 2025, reflecting the school’s growing academic strength and co-curricular achievements.
Headmaster Hasim Seli attributed the success to the combined efforts of teachers, parents, and students. He noted that more pupils achieved the minimum proficiency benchmark, Mastery Level 3 (TP3), in the final academic session test.
In the UP-DLP results, SK Merpati Jepang attained 85.71% in Science, 72.61% in Mathematics, and an impressive 96.42% in English.
Speaking at the Children’s Excellence Awards Ceremony on Friday, Hasim encouraged students to continue striving for excellence. “For those who have not succeeded, never give up. Make today a source of inspiration to rise up and achieve outstanding success in the future,” he said.
The ceremony honoured 90 students from Years 1 to 6 with the Outstanding Academic Student Award, while 33 students received Best Subject Awards.
Additionally, 84 Year 6 students were presented with souvenirs as they prepare to transition into secondary school in 2026.
Special awards were also given, including the Nilam Award, Most Ains Record Completion Award, Special Academic Gem Award, Special Personality Gem Award, and Special Co-Curricular Gem Award.
Beyond academics, SK Merpati Jepang has excelled in co-curricular activities. Students represented the school at district, state, and national levels in football, Muay Thai, and squash, achieving both championship and runner-up titles.
The school’s Choral Speaking team, guided by Cikgu Wong Lin and English teachers, won the Kuching District championship for the first time and advanced to the Sarawak state level.
Hasim highlighted that these achievements demonstrate the success of holistic education at SK Merpati Jepang.
Looking ahead, he revealed that the school has drawn up initiatives for 2026, focusing on 21st-century learning, including strengthening robotics and drone programmes and enhancing digital literacy among teachers and students.
He urged continued collaboration among teachers, parents, and students to build an educational ecosystem that values both academic results and character development.
The event was attended by Mohamad Faizal Lamat, President of the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), Sapiah Bujang, Senior Assistant for Administration, Azizah Sulong, Senior Assistant for Student Affairs, Azman Hamdan, Senior Assistant for Co-Curriculum, and Ts. Abang Kassim Yusuf Kadir, Deputy PTA President.
