KAPIT – The redevelopment of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Tunoh has been fully completed and officially handed over, marking a significant improvement in rural education infrastructure.
The handover ceremony, held on Saturday, was witnessed by Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Deputy Minister of Digital Malaysia and Member of Parliament for Hulu Rajang.
The project forms part of the RM1 billion Allocation (Phase 2) – Package 9, which also includes upgrades for SK Tanjung Bekakap in Sibu.
The initiative is aimed at modernising dilapidated schools, particularly in rural areas, to provide safer and more conducive learning environments.
Wilson Ugak emphasised that the completion of SK Sungai Tunoh will benefit students by offering improved facilities that support both academic and extracurricular activities.
He also presented a RM20,000 contribution to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) to assist with ongoing needs and programmes.
The redevelopment project is part of Sarawak’s broader education strategy to ensure rural communities are not left behind in infrastructure development.
By upgrading schools in Kapit and other divisions, the government aims to provide equitable access to quality education across the state.
Also present at the ceremony were Robert Liman, Kapit Division Deputy Resident, and Senggalang, Headmaster of SK Sungai Tunoh.
Their attendance reflected the collaborative effort between government representatives and local education leaders in supporting rural schools.
The completion of SK Sungai Tunoh adds to Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to modernise its education sector, with a focus on creating comfortable, safe, and well-equipped facilities for students.
The project underscores the state’s commitment to investing in human capital development, recognising that education is a cornerstone for long-term progress in rural communities.
