The initiative was led by Inspector Lucy Anak Ronald Jubang, Head of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, supported by 18 junior police officers from various branches. The operation combined enforcement, community engagement, and awareness programmes to strengthen public safety and build closer ties between police and residents.

The objectives of the operation included preventing property crime, checking suspicious individuals and vehicles, enforcing traffic regulations, and identifying individuals on the wanted list. Officers also interacted with traders and customers in Pekan Song, providing information on crime prevention tools and encouraging community participation.

One of the key highlights was the promotion of the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application, designed to make it easier for the public to share information and lodge complaints with the police. Officers distributed registration leaflets and explained how the app can be used to report suspicious activities.

In addition, police shared updates on commercial crime trends and provided details of the JSJK Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Scam Response Centre hotline. Traders were advised to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to enhance the security of their premises.

The operation also focused on cultivating stronger relationships between the police and the community, positioning residents as partners in crime prevention. Officers emphasised that community cooperation is vital in reducing crime and ensuring safety.

During the operation, 60 individuals and 51 vehicles were checked. Four summonses were issued for traffic offences, while four new members registered for the VSP application. The exercise was conducted under good weather conditions and concluded peacefully without any untoward incidents.

Song District Police Chief, DSP Benedict Faris Bin Jimoy, stated that the operation reflects IPD Song’s ongoing commitment to improving public safety through patrols, inspections, and continuous police presence. He noted that the initiative received positive feedback from traders and the local community, who welcomed the programme and expressed hope that similar operations would continue in the future.

The police reiterated their call for public cooperation in reporting fraud and suspicious activities. Victims or individuals with information related to scams are encouraged to contact the CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-2610 1559 or 03-2610 1599.

The operation in Song underscores the proactive stance taken by Sarawak police in tackling crime and fostering community trust. By combining enforcement with education and engagement, the initiative demonstrates how law enforcement and residents can work together to create safer communities.
