SONG – The Song District Police Headquarters (IPD) has carried out an Integrated Crime Prevention Operation alongside the AMANITA Omnipresence and Engagement Programme, aimed at strengthening public safety and fostering closer ties with the community. The initiative began at 9.00am on 22 April 2026 across Song Town.
The operation was led by INSP Kumareswaran A/L Murugan, Head of the Criminal Investigation Division, supported by 17 junior officers from various branches.
The programme combined enforcement measures with community engagement, reflecting a broader policing strategy that balances crime prevention with public outreach.
Key objectives included deterring property crime, monitoring suspicious individuals and vehicles, enforcing traffic regulations, and tracking persons on the wanted list.
Officers also interacted with traders and customers in Pekan Song, distributing information about the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application, which allows the public to report incidents directly to the police.
Leaflets on commercial crime trends were shared, and traders were advised to install CCTV systems to enhance premises security.
The programme also highlighted the CCID Scam Response Centre hotline, encouraging victims or witnesses of fraud to contact 03-2610 1559 or 03-2610 1599.
Police emphasised that community awareness is crucial in tackling scams, which remain a growing concern across Sarawak.
Operational results showed 57 individuals and 57 vehicles were inspected, with five summonses issued for traffic offences.
No arrests or seizures were recorded, and no information was received through VSP or AMANITA registrations during the exercise. Importantly, the entire operation proceeded smoothly without any reported criminal incidents.
Song District Police Chief DSP Benedict Faris Bin Jimoy stated that the initiative reflects the police’s ongoing commitment to maintaining public safety through visible patrols and continuous presence.
He noted that the involvement of AMANITA officers has been well received by traders and residents, who welcomed the proactive engagement.
The operation underscores the importance of community-police collaboration in crime prevention. By combining enforcement with education and outreach, authorities aim to build trust and ensure that Song remains a safe environment for residents and businesses.
