BINTULU – The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bintulu Branch commemorated its 63rd Anniversary with the installation of its 24th Executive Committee (2025–2027) at the Imperial Hotel Bintulu on Saturday.
The ceremony was officiated by SUPP President and Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, who delivered a keynote address highlighting Sarawak’s rapid development trajectory. He attributed this progress to political stability, inclusive policies and strong economic consolidation.
Dr Sim noted that Sarawak has transformed from being underestimated to becoming a state that now commands investor confidence and Federal recognition.
He emphasised that Sarawak’s financial position is robust enough to operate independently of external financing, serving as a model of fiscal management.
“This economic strength enables the government to implement more progressive policies for the benefit of the people,” he said.
On education, Dr Sim reaffirmed Sarawak’s recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) for over a decade.
He also highlighted the state’s annual allocation of RM10 million to Chinese secondary schools, with nearly RM92 million distributed to date.
He stressed that Sarawak’s education policy is inclusive of all races, strengthening diversity and talent development.
Dr Sim further pointed to the role of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), which has received more than RM500 million since 2017, as evidence of Sarawak’s commitment to interfaith harmony.
Meanwhile, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, Assemblyman for Tanjung Batu and Chairman of SUPP Bintulu, reminded committee members that their roles are a sacred trust requiring integrity.
He urged them to defend Sarawak’s political stability and resist external influences that do not reflect the aspirations of the state’s people.
The event also featured the presentation of a cheque worth RM594,458 to SMK Kai Dee, underscoring the party’s support for education.
Traditional lion dance performances, cultural showcases and a lucky draw added vibrancy to the evening, marking a memorable close to the branch’s 63rd-anniversary celebration.
