Swift Action: Missing Hiker in Kemuyang Forest Found Safe Within an Hour

SIBU, 27 April 2025 – A 46-year-old man who went missing while hiking in the Kemuyang Forest near Jalan Kemuyang was found safe yesterday evening, thanks to the swift action of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sibu Zone.

According to JBPM Sibu Zone Chief, Andy Alie, a team from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched immediately after an emergency call was received at 4.15 pm.

“Upon arriving at the scene, we were informed that a civilian had gotten lost while hiking in the forest. The operations commander assessed the situation and instructed personnel to monitor the location where the victim was last reported,” Andy said in a statement today.

The rescue team worked closely with four civilians who assisted in the search based on the victim’s live location shared via WhatsApp.

“The search was carried out within a 2-kilometre radius from the main road. After careful searching, the victim was successfully located safe and unharmed,” Andy added.

The man was escorted out of the forest to the main road safely. The entire search and rescue operation was concluded swiftly, ending at 5.28 pm — less than an hour after the initial emergency call.

The authorities thanked the public for their cooperation and reminded hikers to always inform someone of their whereabouts and carry essential safety gear when venturing into forested areas.

This incident highlights the importance of quick communication, teamwork, and the dedication of the rescue teams who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the community.
