SARIKEI — A swift and coordinated response by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force helped ensure the safety of all victims following a road accident involving two vehicles in the Sarikei Court area on Wednesday afternoon.
The Sarikei District APM received an emergency call at about 1.00 pm reporting a collision between a Proton X70 and a Toyota Hilux. Upon receiving the alert, the MyASPA-O Bravo squad was immediately dispatched to the scene at 1.10 pm and arrived within two minutes, reflecting the readiness and efficiency of the rescue team.
According to initial findings at the scene, the accident involved a 39-year-old man who was driving the Proton X70. He suffered an open wound on his forehead as a result of the impact. APM personnel provided initial treatment on-site before arrangements were made to send him to hospital for further medical attention.
Meanwhile, two other victims who were travelling in the Toyota Hilux, aged 34 and 49, experienced pain in the shoulder and chest areas. Both individuals were reported to be in stable condition at the time of rescue. As a precautionary measure, they were also taken to hospital to undergo further examination and treatment.
Further checks revealed that two young girls who were passengers in the Proton X70 were not treated by APM at the scene, as they were transported to hospital earlier by their immediate family members. One of the girls reportedly suffered injuries inside the mouth, while the other complained of pain at the back of the body. Both were sent for medical assessment to ensure their conditions were properly monitored.
The rescue operation at the accident location was fully completed by 1.17 pm. Following this, APM personnel proceeded to the hospital to assist with the transfer of the victims. The team later returned safely to the Sarikei District Operations Control Post at 1.48 pm, marking the end of the operation.
In its advisory, the Sarikei District APM reminded road users to always remain cautious when driving, especially in busy areas, and to strictly obey traffic rules. Such awareness and discipline on the road, the agency stressed, are essential in preventing accidents and avoiding injuries to oneself and others.
The incident once again highlights the importance of quick emergency response and responsible driving in safeguarding public safety across Sarawak, including in the town of Sarikei.
