Swift Public Action Saves Toyota Hilux from Fire at Sungai Plan, Bintulu

Swift Public Action Saves Toyota Hilux from Fire at Sungai Plan, Bintulu

BINTULU – Quick thinking and swift action by members of the public successfully saved a Toyota Hilux from being entirely consumed by flames at Lot Sungai Plan earlier tonight.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (Bomba) confirmed receiving an emergency call about the incident at 8.37pm. Responding promptly, a team from the Kidurong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the scene.

However, before the firefighters arrived, members of the public had already taken initial measures to control the situation. Using dry powder fire extinguishers, they managed to prevent the fire from spreading further.

According to a spokesperson from Bomba, the fire appeared to originate from the vehicle’s engine, which was emitting thick smoke.

“The fire department disconnected the vehicle’s battery wire for safety purposes after ensuring the fire was fully under control,” the spokesperson added.

The cause of the fire and the total damages incurred are still under investigation.

The quick and responsible actions of the public in this situation highlight the importance of knowing basic fire safety measures, including the proper use of fire extinguishers during emergencies.

Stay Prepared, Stay Safe

The incident serves as a reminder to motorists to conduct regular vehicle maintenance and always have a fire extinguisher on hand. Prompt actions can make a critical difference in emergencies, as seen in tonight’s near-miss incident at Lot Sungai Plan.
