KOTA SAMARAHAN – Police have taken swift action against a driver whose traffic offence went viral on social media after being highlighted on the Sarawak Road Update Facebook page. The incident involved a vehicle failing to obey a red traffic light at the Taman Berlian intersection, Jalan Kota Samarahan–Mambong.
The offence was reported to have occurred on 4 March 2026 at around 9.05 am, when a Perodua Axia was seen running the red light. The video and complaint quickly spread online, prompting authorities to investigate.
On 6 April 2026, members of the Kota Samarahan BSPTD conducted a detection operation to trace the vehicle involved.
Following further investigation, the driver was successfully identified. A Pol257 summons was issued through the MCOPS system, with summons number L0673G000232 recorded.
Police emphasised that the action taken demonstrates their commitment to ensuring road safety and responding to public concerns raised through social media.
Authorities reminded motorists that traffic lights are critical for maintaining order and preventing accidents at busy intersections.
The incident also highlights the growing role of social media in assisting law enforcement. Viral posts often provide leads for police to act on, ensuring that offenders are held accountable. Officials noted that public vigilance and cooperation remain vital in reducing traffic offences across Sarawak.
The JSPT has urged drivers to exercise caution and obey all traffic regulations. They stressed that reckless behaviour, such as ignoring traffic signals, not only endangers the driver but also poses risks to other road users.
