KOTA SAMARAHAN: A house in Taman Melaban suffered fire damage this morning after the living room was believed to have caught fire due to a short circuit.
Operations Commander Justin Basik said his team received an emergency call regarding the incident at 10.49 am.
A Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and a Hilux utility vehicle from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were immediately dispatched to the scene, located about eight kilometres from the station.
“The team arrived at 10.58 am and found the fire involved the main switch and socket in the living room. Firefighters used a first aid hose and carried out ventilation through the windows to control the fire,” Justin explained in a statement issued today.
He added that the quick action of the firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading further. The damage was estimated to have affected 15 percent of the house.
The operation was declared fully under control at 11.20 am. Thankfully, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Preliminary investigation suggests the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, which started from the living room’s main switch. Authorities are advising homeowners to carry out regular inspections of electrical wiring and avoid overloading sockets to prevent similar accidents.
This incident highlights once again the importance of fire safety awareness, especially in residential areas where faulty wiring and neglected electrical points remain common causes of house fires.
The Fire and Rescue Department also reminded the public to immediately call 999 for emergencies and to ensure that basic fire extinguishing equipment, such as fire extinguishers, are available in homes for initial response before firefighters arrive.
