BINTULU – Problems affecting road and drainage upgrades in several parts of Tanjong Batu have been effectively addressed following discussions and coordinated action among relevant authorities.
Tanjong Batu State Assemblyman (ADUN), Johnny Pang Leong Ming, stated that priority has been given to the ongoing drainage improvement work along Jalan Sibiyu, particularly in front of Taman Ing Ling.
The project involves constructing a covered drainage crossing to channel water into Sungai Sibiyu, a plan that had previously faced delays due to utility-related complications.
“To resolve the matter, all agencies involved have been called for face-to-face discussions,” he said, noting that coordination has now enabled the resumption of road resurfacing, which is scheduled to be completed before the upcoming Chinese New Year.
The announcement followed a meeting between Johnny Pang, the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), and contractors at the SUPP Service Centre on Monday.
The assemblyman highlighted that collaborative engagement among agencies was critical in overcoming the delays.
In addition, Johnny Pang provided updates on the drainage and road enhancement project along Jalan Persekutuan Gunasama, near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Asyikirin.
The initiative includes raising the road level and widening existing drainage channels. Minor issues arose during the project’s early stages, which were successfully addressed after clarifying misunderstandings between the involved agencies.
He emphasised that regular discussions and coordination with relevant authorities should be standard practice before initiating new development projects.
“As a representative of the people, this responsibility not only involves dealing with government agencies, but also listening to and understanding the needs of the people on the ground,” he said.
Local residents in Gem Park have also proposed several short-term solutions, including river dredging works.
These recommendations will be formally submitted to the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) for evaluation to identify the most effective method for preventing stagnant water accumulation.
Furthermore, Johnny Pang underscored the importance of upgrading existing earthen drains to concrete channels.
He added that widening and deepening drainage systems is a key component of Bintulu’s broader urban development plan, which aims to improve water management and road infrastructure to meet growing urban needs.
The latest developments reflect an integrated approach to urban infrastructure challenges in Tanjong Batu, demonstrating how coordinated planning and dialogue with multiple stakeholders can yield timely solutions that benefit both residents and the wider community.
