LUNDU – A total of 143 residents from Kampung Sileng Melayu received Christmas gifts and Back To School assistance during a ceremony held at the Mahligai Gading Community Hall on Sunday.
The event was officiated by Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, who emphasised the importance of community support and educational aid.
Out of the recipients, 23 individuals from low-income households and 20 children were presented with Christmas gifts, while 100 students received school bags under the Back To School initiative.
The programme was designed to ease the financial burden of families as schools prepare to reopen in January.
Azizul expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Government for its ongoing commitment to education, noting that assistance ranging from school uniforms to learning materials has been instrumental in supporting families across the state.
He highlighted that such initiatives extend beyond primary and secondary levels, reaching students in institutions of higher learning.
“The assistance including school uniforms, learning materials and other support will ease the financial burden of parents and guardians,” he said, encouraging eligible students to apply for further aid through the Yayasan Sarawak portal. He added that applicants could also access information on laptop assistance and other schemes available.
To ensure smooth applications, Azizul assured that the N3 Tanjong Datu Assemblyman Service Centre is ready to assist families who face difficulties or confusion during the process. He stressed that no student should miss out on opportunities due to procedural challenges.
In addition, Azizul reminded church management committees to submit reports to the Other Religious Affairs Unit (UNIFOR) whenever grants are received.
He explained that proper reporting is essential to ensure accountability and compliance with regulations, which in turn strengthens future applications.
The ceremony reflected Sarawak’s broader commitment to community welfare, combining festive cheer with practical support for education.
By addressing both immediate needs and long-term development, the initiative underscored the government’s focus on inclusivity and empowerment.
Local leaders and residents welcomed the programme, noting that it not only provided relief during the festive season but also reinforced the importance of education as a pathway to opportunity.
The event highlighted how grassroots initiatives can make a tangible difference in easing financial pressures while fostering community spirit.
