Driver Injured in Tanjung Bijat Crash Involving Lorry and Perodua Kancil

Lingga, Sarawak: A driver sustained injuries in a road accident involving a three-ton lorry and a Perodua Kancil along Jalan Tanjung Bijat this afternoon.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Centre received an emergency call at 4:49 pm, prompting a team from Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station, led by Senior Fire Officer I Mohamad Fadhli Buyong, to rush to the scene.

Upon arrival, rescuers found that the Kancil driver had suffered injuries to the head and legs but was not trapped inside the vehicle. The lorry driver was unharmed. The injured driver was carefully extracted using rescue equipment and a stretcher before being handed over to the Ministry of Health (KKM) for further medical treatment.

Nine fire personnel managed the operation using a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle. Authorities at the scene also included two Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers and two KKM personnel with an ambulance.

JBPM Sarawak emphasized that the safety of the victims was the top priority. The rescue operation concluded once all parties were confirmed safe, and traffic was restored to normal.

Traffic authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously along Jalan Tanjung Bijat, particularly in areas frequented by heavy vehicles, to prevent similar accidents in the future. Witnesses to the incident also highlighted the importance of maintaining safe distances and adhering to speed limits.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for road safety awareness in Sarawak, especially on routes connecting smaller towns where road conditions can be challenging and traffic can mix with heavy vehicles.
