Tatau School Games Champion Unity Through Sport

TATAU – The values of discipline and collective spirit were celebrated at the annual sports meet of SK Rumah Barrau.

The two-day event, which included games organised by the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), underscored the role of sport in building character.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Dr. Stephen William, the political secretary to the Minister of National UnityDato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang. In his address, he emphasised that sporting events teach children far more than physical prowess.

“Sports are not merely about who is fastest or strongest, but about learning discipline, perseverance, and unity,” he stated.

He commended the collaborative spirit demonstrated by the entire school community, adding that these principles help shape character and foster harmony beyond the playing field.

Dr. Stephen also acknowledged the school’s achievements despite limited facilities, pledging to convey the need for better federal support for rural schools.

He highlighted a significant milestone for the school: a student has been selected to represent Sarawak in the upcoming MSSM Hockey Championship 2025.

The school’s headmistress, Agnes Lendun John Jutie, expressed profound gratitude for the consistent support from Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang.

She noted that his backing has been the cornerstone of the school’s hockey development programme since 2023, enabling players to succeed at district, state, and now national levels.

The event was also attended by the Assistant District Education Officer Razlie Maidin, PIBG Chairman Bilong Menyerang, and community leader Penghulu Micheal Agul Reman.
