TDV Hosts Singapore Students, Strengthening Sarawak’s Digital Education

SARIKEI – TEGAS Digital Village (TDV) has further established itself as a regional centre for digital learning after welcoming a delegation of students from Singapore for an educational visit that combined hands-on STEM activities and cross-cultural exchanges.

The visit involved 35 students and five accompanying teachers from Seng Kang Secondary School, who chose TDV as their primary destination to learn about technology, innovation and digital entrepreneurship, according to statements from TDV leadership.

TDV is a flagship initiative of Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), created to accelerate the growth of local startups and nurture digital talent across the state.

The facility provides interactive learning spaces, demonstration labs and programmes designed to expose young learners to Virtual Reality, 3D technologies, flight simulation and other emerging tools.

The exchange also coincided with a group from Sekolah Kebangsaan Abang Buyuk Jerijeh, Sarikei, allowing local and international pupils to participate in joint activities.

Organisers said the simultaneous visits offered an opportunity for rural students to engage directly with peers from overseas while exploring digital careers and creative problem-solving in a stimulating environment.

TDV has in recent months received several school delegations, reflecting growing interest from regional partners.

Earlier this year, primary pupils from Telok Kurau Primary School and students from St Andrew’s Secondary School in Singapore undertook similar programmes at the village, which include short immersive sessions aimed at promoting innovation, social entrepreneurship and STEM skills.

Sarawak government representatives have framed such educational outreach as part of a wider strategy to embed digital literacy and talent development within the state’s education and economic agendas.

Officials have referenced the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy as a guiding framework for initiatives that combine technical training with enterprise development and community outreach.

Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment and Chairman of the Sarawak Children’s Economic Idea Fund (TEGAS), said the visits underline TDV’s rising international profile and Sarawak’s capacity to cultivate a tech-savvy younger generation.

He described the interaction as a “bridge” enabling rural students to access new ideas and collaborative experiences in technology and innovation.

Programmes at TDV are intended to foster interest in STEM and to broaden pathways into technical and vocational education and training (TVET), entrepreneurship and the digital economy.

Local stakeholders say these opportunities are particularly valuable in raising aspirations and equipping youth with practical skills that respond to rapid technological change.

Organisers emphasised the importance of sustained partnerships for long-term impact, suggesting that recurrent exchanges and classroom link-ups could reinforce learning outcomes and open pathways for future collaboration between Sarawak schools and regional counterparts.
