HULU SELANGOR – A search and rescue (SAR) operation that lasted several days ended in tragedy when 19-year-old Nur Izzati Humaira Azizul, who was reported missing while hiking at Bukit Changkat Asa, was found dead by rescue teams today.
The discovery was confirmed by Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar. He said the teenager’s body was located at about 11.59am by SAR personnel during ongoing search efforts in the area.
According to him, the body was found outside the main climbing route, approximately 500 metres from the spot where the victim was last seen. It was also about one kilometre from the Crime Scene Control Post (CCP) set up by authorities to coordinate the operation.
Rescue teams worked carefully at the scene before using a stretcher to carry the body back to the CCP. The process took about 20 minutes due to the challenging terrain of the hill area.
After the recovery, the body was handed over to the Royal Malaysian Police for further action. It was later sent to Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The SAR operation, which entered its fourth day today, began early in the morning at around 8am. Multiple security and rescue agencies were involved in the mission after operations were temporarily halted at 6.30pm the previous day due to safety and operational limits.
Nur Izzati was believed to have gone missing at about 10.50am last Saturday. She was reportedly descending the hill with her family when she decided to walk ahead alone as she was feeling tired and hot. That decision led to her separation from the group, after which she was reported lost.
The incident has raised concerns over hiking safety, especially for young trekkers in challenging terrain. Authorities continue to remind the public to avoid separating from groups during outdoor activities and to always prioritise safety, even when fatigued.
As investigations continue, the case serves as a serious reminder of the risks involved in recreational hiking in forest and hill areas, particularly during hot weather conditions.
