KUCHING: A tragic accident claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy at KM3 Jalan Serian-Gedong on Wednesday evening. The incident happened at around 7.50 pm when the teenager lost control of his motorcycle and collided with an oncoming car.
Serian District Police Chief DSP Neil Beginda identified the victim as Ziestonovic Ivan Jenny from Kampung Triboh, Serian. Preliminary investigations suggest that Ziestonovic lost control of his motorcycle, veered into the opposite lane, and hit an oncoming vehicle.
The teenager sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. His body was later taken to the Forensic Department at Serian Hospital for a post-mortem.
Fortunately, the driver of the car involved in the accident was unharmed.
DSP Neil Beginda confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The tragic accident serves as a stark reminder for road users to exercise caution and prioritize safety at all times, especially on high-risk roads like Jalan Serian-Gedong.
Authorities have urged the public to adhere to traffic laws and take extra precautions when driving or riding motorcycles, particularly during the evening when visibility may be reduced.
