PETROS-PETRONAS Collaboration Talks Ongoing: Future Agreement Soon?

KUCHING, 9 March – The much-anticipated collaboration between Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) is still under discussion, with both parties working to resolve commercial and administrative issues.

Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, revealed that PETROS had recently sent a formal letter to PETRONAS, initiating further discussions on the commercial arrangement, legal framework, and administrative aspects of the partnership.

“The details are still being discussed, but PETROS has officially reached out to PETRONAS to finalise the specifics. We hope both parties can reach a mutual agreement soon,” he said.

Awaiting Prime Minister and Sarawak Premier’s Decision

Dato Sri Fadillah explained that once PETROS and PETRONAS conclude their negotiations, the final decision will rest in the hands of Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.

“Only after PETROS and PETRONAS agree on the commercial terms and legal translation, the Prime Minister and Sarawak Premier will assess the details before finalising the agreement,” he added.

Engagement in Local Community Initiatives

Dato Sri Fadillah shared these updates with reporters during the Bubur Lambuk Distribution Ceremony organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) at Satok Sports Complex on Saturday. At the event, he personally distributed 500 packs of spicy porridge to the public and participated in a special Ramadan donation programme. A total of 75 underprivileged individuals from the Satok constituency received contributions from Satok Sports Complex and Bank Muamalat.

Among the distinguished guests present were Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Satok Assemblyman, Dato Ibrahim Baki, and DBKU Mayor, Dato Hilmy Othman.

The PETROS-PETRONAS collaboration is seen as a crucial step toward strengthening Sarawak’s role in the oil and gas sector. With discussions still ongoing, the industry awaits further developments on this strategic partnership.
