Toyota Vios Engulfed in Flames After Crash, Driver Escapes Unhurt

Toyota Vios Engulfed in Flames After Crash, Driver Escapes Unhurt

KUCHING, 23 April 2025 – A shocking early morning accident at Taman Highfield, Jalan Batu Kawa, left a Toyota Vios completely destroyed in flames—but miraculously, the driver walked away without a scratch.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 7.34am, involved a single vehicle that reportedly lost control and crashed head-on, resulting in a fire that engulfed the car.

A team from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) responded swiftly after receiving an emergency call. Senior Fire Officer I (PBK I) Abdul Aziz Swandi said his team arrived at the scene by 7.36am, just minutes after the vehicle caught fire.

“When our personnel arrived, the Toyota Vios was already on fire due to the impact of the self-inflicted accident. Fortunately, the driver managed to exit the vehicle in time and was not injured,” he said.

Firefighters quickly began extinguishing the flames using a First Aid Hose (SBM) from the fire engine’s pump system. The situation was brought under control shortly, and the operation ended at 8.17am after ensuring the area was safe.

Although the vehicle was completely destroyed, no other cars or nearby property were affected. The swift action by JBPM ensured that the fire did not spread beyond the accident site.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident, but preliminary findings suggest it was due to driver error.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving, especially during early hours when road visibility and conditions can be unpredictable.
