MUKAH, Dec 1 — A tragic accident claimed the life of a 63-year-old man, Hii Hing Siong, when his motorcycle collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle on Jalan Kuala Balingian earlier today.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 12:00 noon near KM 6, Jalan Kuala Balingian. Mukah District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Muhamad Rizal Alias, stated that preliminary investigations suggest the accident happened when the four-wheel drive vehicle, traveling from Tatau to Balingian, collided with the motorcycle.

“The initial findings indicate that the four-wheel drive was moving straight towards Balingian when it collided with the motorcycle, which suddenly veered into its lane,” he explained in a press statement.

The impact was severe, resulting in the motorcyclist succumbing to his injuries at the scene. Medical personnel from the Balingian Health Clinic confirmed the victim’s death.

Meanwhile, the three male occupants of the four-wheel drive vehicle, aged between 26 and 36, escaped unharmed.

Deputy Superintendent Muhamad Rizal confirmed that the case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987.

Residents in the area have expressed concerns over the frequent accidents on this stretch of road, calling for increased safety measures.

Authorities urge all motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, especially during the rainy season, which can make roads more hazardous.
