Tragic Night: Elderly Woman Hit by Car While Heading to Prayers

LIMBANG, 5 March – A peaceful night in Kampung Limpaong turned into tragedy when an elderly woman lost her life after being hit by a Perodua Kancil while crossing the road to perform her Isyak and Tarawih prayers.

The victim, Johara Saleh, 75, was on her way to the surau when the accident happened at around 7.00pm. According to reports, Johara suffered serious injuries, including severe bleeding at the back of her head and injuries to her left leg. Despite being rushed to the hospital by members of the Civil Defence Force (APM), she was sadly pronounced dead around 8.00pm.

Her passing was confirmed by her family, and her body was laid to rest at Sungai Kudung Islamic Cemetery today.

Civil Defence Responds Quickly

Limbang District Civil Defence Officer Captain (PA) Bonnie Madisun shared that the emergency team was led by Lance Corporal (PA) Amirul Matusin. The team immediately rushed to the scene after receiving the emergency call.

“Once our team arrived, we checked the situation and confirmed that a victim was involved in a road accident,” Bonnie said.

Witnesses revealed that the elderly woman was walking to the surau when a Perodua Kancil suddenly hit her.

Community Shocked by the Incident

The sudden loss of Johara Saleh has deeply saddened the residents of Kampung Limpaong. Many expressed their shock and sadness, especially since the accident happened during the holy month, when many elderly villagers regularly walk to the surau for Tarawih prayers.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder for both drivers and pedestrians to be more careful, especially at night when visibility is lower. Kampung Limpaong residents have also called for better street lighting and clearer pedestrian crossings to prevent similar accidents in the future.
