KOTA SAMARAHAN: A tragic accident on the morning of January 3 has resulted in the death of a 21-year-old motorcyclist in a three-vehicle crash along Jalan Meranek Langsat.

The incident occurred around 8:40 am when a 40-year-old man, driving an MPV, was on his way from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) towards Kampung Meranek Langsat. The impact of the crash caused the motorcyclist to fall into the opposite lane, where she was tragically struck by a lorry driven by a 53-year-old man.

Despite the quick response of emergency services, the motorcyclist succumbed to fatal head injuries at the scene of the accident.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin has confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

This incident highlights the critical importance of road safety, particularly the need for all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such tragedies.

The authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant on the roads and report any unsafe driving behavior to help reduce accidents in the future.
