Ankara — Türkiye and Georgia have set an ambitious target to boost their bilateral trade to $5 billion annually, marking a significant escalation in their strategic partnership, announced Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Mikheil Kavelashvili at a joint press conference in Ankara on August 12.
The leaders reflected on recent trade achievements. Türkiye has long held the position as Georgia’s leading trade partner over the past 17 years, and Turkish contractors have completed over 300 projects worth $5.5 billion in Georgia.
Erdoğan emphasized the commitment to deepening mutual investments, with over 2,000 Turkish companies currently operating across Georgia.
The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) Railway, dubbed “the backbone of the Middle Corridor,” remains vital to both countries’ shared vision of increased East–West connectivity. Both Presidents called for its full operationalization to enhance regional transport and trade.
The initiative builds on groundwork already laid by trade and infrastructure cooperation. Trade Minister Ömer Bolat confirmed that bilateral trade already surpassed $3.5 billion, with targets structured toward realizing the $5 billion goal.
