Two Fatalities in Separate Miri Traffic Accidents: Investigations Underway

MIRI: Two tragic accidents on December 8 have claimed the lives of two individuals in separate incidents along the Miri-Bintulu highway.

The first fatality occurred at around 4.30 pm when a 31-year-old motorcyclist, traveling from Bintulu to Miri, collided with a Proton Iswara. The driver of the Proton Iswara, a 50-year-old man, was making a U-turn when the motorcycle crashed into the car. Despite efforts to save the motorcyclist, he suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead at Miri Hospital at 8.50 pm.

The second fatal incident occurred an hour later at approximately 5.30 pm, along Jalan Miri-Bintulu. A 41-year-old pedestrian was tragically struck by a Proton Persona. The driver of the Proton Persona, a 52-year-old man, reported seeing the pedestrian crossing the road but was unable to avoid the collision. The pedestrian succumbed to fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, the driver was unhurt.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that investigations are ongoing for both incidents, which are being treated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities are urging the public to drive with caution and respect traffic regulations to prevent further accidents.

These two fatalities serve as a painful reminder of the dangers on the roads and the importance of responsible driving. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims during this difficult time.
