Sarawak Head of State Pays Condolence Visit to YB Abdul Karim’s Family

KUCHING – His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, paid a condolence visit to the family of YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak’s Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), and Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), at his residence in Jalan Astana this evening.

The visit was to offer sympathy and support following the passing of YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim’s beloved mother, the late Hajah Arniah binti Mat—affectionately known as Hajah Noni—who passed away on 22 July 2025 (26 Muharam 1447H) at 3:30 pm.

The arrival of Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan was warmly received by YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim and his wife, YBhg. Datin Sri Hajah Zuraini binti Abdul Jabbar.

Accompanying the Head of State were YBhg. Dato Sri Haji Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, Senior Private Secretary to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, and his wife, YBhg. Datin Sri Nadia. Also present were Tuan Haji Junih bin Salleh Ahmad, Private Secretary to TYT Tun, and several officers from the Astana Negeri.

During the visit, Dato Sri Syed Hamzah recited a brief tahlil (Islamic prayer for the deceased) before the delegation took their leave.

Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that YB Abdul Karim and his loved ones be granted strength and patience in facing this period of grief. They also prayed that the late Hajah Arniah’s soul be blessed, forgiven, and placed among the righteous.
