KUCHING, April 14 – His Excellency Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has conveyed his warm Vaisakhi greetings to the Sikh community across Malaysia, with a special focus on those residing in Sarawak, in conjunction with the annual celebration of the festival.
In a message issued on Tuesday, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, together with his wife Fauziah Mohd Sanusi and their family members, expressed their heartfelt wishes to all Sikhs celebrating Vaisakhi. The occasion, which holds deep cultural and religious importance, marks the beginning of the new year in the Sikh calendar and is widely observed with gratitude and reflection.
Tun Wan Junaidi noted that Vaisakhi represents more than just a festive celebration. He highlighted that the values associated with the festival, including sincerity, courage, and unity, continue to play a vital role in fostering harmony within Malaysia’s multi-racial society. These values, he said, are especially relevant in Sarawak, where diverse communities live together in mutual respect and understanding.
The Head of State also took the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of the Sikh community to Sarawak’s development. Over the years, members of the community have been actively involved in various sectors, including public service, business, education, and security. Their presence, he said, has helped strengthen unity and contributed positively to the social and economic progress of the state.
According to Tun Wan Junaidi, the continued commitment of the Sikh community reflects the strong spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility among Sarawakians. He added that such contributions are essential in maintaining the state’s stability and growth, especially in an increasingly complex and diverse society.
Looking ahead, he expressed hope that this year’s Vaisakhi celebration would bring happiness and blessings to all who observe it. He also emphasised the importance of the festival as a time to strengthen family ties and friendships, while reinforcing the spirit of unity among communities.
In closing, Tun Wan Junaidi extended his wishes for a meaningful and joyful Vaisakhi celebration to all Sikhs, encouraging continued harmony and understanding among the people of Sarawak.
