The royal event, held last night at the Royal Banquet Hall, Istana Nurul Iman, brought together members of the Brunei royal family, state dignitaries, foreign guests, government representatives and members of the diplomatic corps.

Also present at the banquet was His Majesty the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha.

Accompanying Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah was Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, together with his wife, Dato Hajah Dayang Morliah Datuk Haji Awang Daud.

The celebration was held to honour the 80th birthday milestone of the Brunei monarch and highlighted the close relationship shared between Brunei Darussalam and its regional partners.

The royal banquet also reflected the strong bonds of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect that have continued to develop between Brunei and countries and regions with longstanding historical connections.

For Sarawak, the attendance of Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah represented the state’s continued commitment to strengthening ties with Brunei Darussalam, particularly through shared history, culture and close neighbourly relations.

Sarawak and Brunei have maintained a unique relationship built on centuries of historical links, geographical proximity and strong people-to-people connections. The relationship remains important in areas such as trade, tourism, culture and regional cooperation.

During the event, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah conveyed their appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah for the gracious invitation to attend the celebration.

They also extended their wishes for His Majesty’s continued good health, prosperity and a long reign that would continue to bring peace and progress to Brunei Darussalam.

The presence of Sarawak’s highest leadership at the royal celebration further demonstrated the close friendship between Sarawak and Brunei, while reaffirming the importance of maintaining strong relations between neighbouring regions in Borneo.

As both sides continue to strengthen cooperation, the longstanding connection between Sarawak and Brunei remains a valuable symbol of unity and partnership in the region.
