UNIFOR Distributes RM1.685 Million to Nine Religious Groups

SIBURAN – Nine religious organisations in the Tarat area have received financial assistance totalling RM1,685,000 from the Unit for Other Religious Affairs (UNIFOR), reinforcing Sarawak’s commitment to supporting diverse faith communities.

The cheques were presented on Sunday by Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah We Inn, during a ceremony in Siburan.

The funding is part of UNIFOR’s ongoing initiative to strengthen infrastructure and community facilities across Sarawak.

Among the recipients were the New SDA Church of Kampung Menjau, Santa Maria Catholic Church of Kampung Baru Mawang, St. Murumba Catholic Church, Amitabha Buddhist Association of Siburan District, and the SDA Church of Kampung Bunga Serian.

Other beneficiaries included St. Edward Church of Kampung Kawa Belimbing, St. Mark Church of Kampung Bisira Rayang, Serian, St. Agnes Church of Kampung Serumah, Padawan, and St. Clements Chapel Patung Church, Siburan.

Dato Sri Roland emphasised that the funds must be used responsibly and in accordance with the purposes outlined in each application.

He reminded recipients that accountability is crucial, with complete reports required on how the funds are utilised.

“Each recipient must use the funds according to the purpose of the application and provide a complete report on the use of the funds. New applications can only be considered if existing funds have been fully used,” he said.

The minister noted that the financial support is intended to ensure projects run smoothly and deliver tangible benefits to local communities.

By assisting religious organisations, UNIFOR aims to enhance facilities that serve as centres for worship, education, and social activities, thereby strengthening community cohesion.

The disbursement reflects Sarawak’s broader policy of inclusivity, ensuring that different religious groups receive equal opportunities to improve their infrastructure and services.

UNIFOR has been a key mechanism in bridging gaps for non-Muslim religious institutions, providing funding for construction, renovation, and community-based projects.

With this latest allocation, Siburan joins other districts in benefiting from UNIFOR’s support, reinforcing the state’s vision of fostering harmony and development through equitable assistance.
