KUCHING, April 10 — A meaningful visit to Gurdwara Sahib Kuching today highlighted the spirit of unity and cultural harmony in Sarawak as community leaders gathered in conjunction with the Vaisakhi celebration.
The visit, which took place at noon, was led by Georgina Apphia Ngau alongside the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) team. They were warmly welcomed by Dr. Kalwinder Singh Khaira, who serves as the President of the Sarawak Sikh Temple Association, together with members of the temple committee.
Held in conjunction with Vaisakhi, one of the most significant festivals in the Sikh calendar, the visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to experience the rich traditions and hospitality of the Sikh community. Guests were treated to a vegetarian lunch prepared by the temple, reflecting the long-standing Sikh practice of communal dining, known for promoting equality and togetherness among all visitors regardless of background.
During the visit, the UNIFOR team also conducted a site inspection of the prayer hall currently under construction within the temple grounds. The inspection offered insight into the ongoing development and future expansion plans of the Gurdwara, which aims to better serve the growing Sikh community in Kuching.
This is not the first time UNIFOR has engaged with the Gurdwara Sahib Kuching, as several previous visits have been carried out over the years. These continued engagements demonstrate the agency’s commitment to fostering close relationships and ensuring support for various religious groups across Sarawak.
