Trump made the announcement on Monday and signed an executive order directing that flags at federal buildings, state buildings, military posts, naval vessels, and embassies around the world be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of the Pope’s interment.

He also posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, with the message:
“Rest in Peace, Pope Francis! May God bless him and all who loved him!”

Speaking at the White House’s Easter Egg Roll event, Trump told the crowd:

“He was a good man, worked hard. He loved the world. And it’s an honour to do that.”

In an official proclamation, Trump stated that the United States honours the Pope’s legacy and his contribution to global peace, compassion, and faith. The move reflects a rare moment of unity and international respect as people across the world mourn the loss of one of the most recognised spiritual leaders of modern times.

During the same event, Trump also took the opportunity to highlight the importance of religion and Christianity in America’s future, saying:

“We’re bringing religion back to America. That’s why you see the spirit and the kind of numbers that you are seeing.”

The passing of Pope Francis marks a significant moment not only for the Catholic community but also for leaders and faithful across different religions worldwide. In Malaysia, many Catholics have expressed their sorrow and joined the international community in paying tribute to the Pope’s enduring legacy of humility and service.
