BINTULU, 19 April 2025 – A devastating accident involving two vehicles at the Paragon traffic light junction claimed two lives and left two others seriously injured late last night.
The fatal crash occurred around 11.54pm, just two kilometres from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station. The vehicles involved were a Toyota Hilux and a Proton Saga.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), a team from the Bintulu station was immediately dispatched upon receiving the emergency call. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered four victims—one man and three women—inside the Proton Saga.

“Two of the victims were trapped inside the vehicle, while the other two were rescued by members of the public before our arrival,” said a JBPM spokesperson.
Tragically, two of the passengers, identified as Yiu Siew Lee, 34, and Janam Ampar, 44, were pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel. Rescue operations to extricate the victims using special equipment concluded at 12.21am.
The surviving victims, both seriously injured, were rushed to the hospital—one by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) and the other by a MOH ambulance.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota Hilux, believed to be a Chinese national, escaped the collision without any injuries.
The remains of the deceased were handed over to the police for further investigation and post-mortem procedures.
This latest incident adds to the growing number of road accidents happening at busy intersections in Bintulu. Authorities urge all motorists to remain cautious, especially during late hours when visibility and alertness may be compromised.
