Sri Aman, April 24 – A 31-year-old man had a narrow escape when his Perodua Viva went up in flames following a head-on collision along Jalan Pan Borneo near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Melugu early this morning.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO), the man was able to get out of the car moments before it was completely engulfed in flames.

“The car was travelling towards Kuching when it was involved in a self-inflicted accident and caught fire. By the time our team arrived, the vehicle was 100% destroyed by the fire,” said a JBPM spokesperson.

Firefighters used a single water line connected to their machinery tank to extinguish the blaze, which had already consumed the entire car.

Despite the severity of the fire, only one individual was involved in the incident. Fortunately, he managed to exit the vehicle without assistance and was later assessed by the Emergency Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) team. He suffered only minor injuries and was found to be in stable condition.
