Sheffield United Storm into Championship Play-Off Final with Record-Breaking Win over Bristol City

Sheffield United delivered a commanding performance to secure their place in the Championship play-off final, defeating Bristol City 3-0 in the second leg and achieving a record 6-0 aggregate victory. This triumph marks the largest margin of victory in a Championship play-off semi-final, underscoring the Blades’ determination to return to the Premier League after a season’s absence.

Having established a 3-0 lead in the first leg at Ashton Gate, Sheffield United entered the home fixture with confidence. The breakthrough came in the 41st minute, when Kieffer Moore headed in a corner from Harrison Burrows, extending the aggregate score to 4-0. Shortly after half-time, Gustavo Hamer doubled the lead with a deflected shot that left Bristol City goalkeeper Max O’Leary wrong-footed. The rout was completed in the 83rd minute when Callum O’Hare, unmarked in the box, calmly slotted home the third goal of the night.

Bristol City’s hopes were already diminished following the first leg, where they suffered a 3-0 defeat and had defender Rob Dickie sent off just before half-time. Despite their efforts, the Robins were unable to mount a comeback against a resolute Sheffield United side.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “We had everything to lose tonight, but the players showed character and professionalism. It’s a special achievement, and now we look forward to the final.”
