KUCHING: The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi paid a courtesy visit to bid farewell to the United States of America Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D Kagan at Kasuma Resort, Petra Jaya on 26th January.
The session, which took place at 11.00 am, was also attended by Mr James Dewey from the US Embassy who acted as Spokesperson as well as Dato Fenny Nuli Director of Sarawak Regional Office Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia.
In the talks between them, they exchanged opinions on mutually beneficial strategic collaboration mainly on Green Economy and Renewable Energy befitting Sarawak’s evolving status as a clean energy powerhouse in Southeast Asia. The Ambassador emphasised Sarawak’s potential in hydrogen and green energy saying that it was in line with Unity, Peace and National Development.
Ambassador Kagan also spoke positively of Sarawak’s political stability and development under the stewardship of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. He praised the state’s progressive development programmes and noted that they had resulted in Sarawak becoming a model of growth and progress.
He also reconfirmed that the US Embassy would continue its commitment as a strategic partner in assisting Sarawak to become developed state. “The Embassy will always be by your side as you advance towards sustainable development of Sarawak,” he said.
At the end of the second session, Ambassador Kagan thanked Tun Pehin Sri for his cooperation and openness during their dialogue. He thanked the Governor for his willingness to offer advice and share views, which helped to cement relations between Sarawak and the United States.
Tun Pehin Sri in reply thanked the Ambassador for his commitment towards both countries and expressed confidence that diplomatic relations now at full stride, alongside economic exchanges between Malaysia and US would hope to continue progress, especially within Sarawak. He also highlighted the need of only fast but sustainable development when the state moves further on clean energy front.
The farewell call was also the last official business meeting for Ambassador Kagan in Sarawak, and highlights a close working relationship between the State and United States on trade, energy and diplomacy.
