MATU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Matu District successfully carried out a wasp nest removal operation in Bawang Village on Saturday, 25 April 2026, after receiving an emergency call from a resident.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) was alerted to the presence of a wasp nest under the roof of a house. The nest, described as being the size of a softball, posed a potential risk to the occupants.
Upon arrival, APM members were guided by the complainant to the exact location. The team prepared the necessary equipment before commencing the removal process.
Using insecticide spray, specifically Ridsect, the squad neutralised the nest and confirmed the area was safe.
The operation was completed without incident, and all personnel and assets remained secure. APM Matu emphasised that the swift response was made possible through effective coordination between the complainant and the emergency team.
Wasp nests can present serious hazards, particularly when located close to residential areas. Stings from wasps may cause painful reactions and, in some cases, severe allergic responses.
Authorities have repeatedly reminded the public not to attempt removal themselves, as improper handling can lead to dangerous outcomes.
Across Sarawak, Civil Defence teams have been actively responding to similar wildlife-related emergencies, including snake-catching and wasp nest removals.
These operations highlight the broader commitment of APM to safeguard communities and maintain public safety.
Residents are encouraged to contact local Civil Defence offices whenever they encounter such threats. In Matu, the District APM PKOD can be reached at 084-832208 for immediate assistance.
The successful removal of the wasp nest in Bawang Village demonstrates the effectiveness of trained emergency personnel and underscores the importance of community cooperation in ensuring safety.
As Sarawak continues to expand its residential areas, the role of emergency services in managing human-wildlife interactions remains vital.
