The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Spaoh District confirmed that a local resident, identified as Mr Matthew, sought assistance after discovering the nests while tending to his garden.

He expressed fear over the potential danger posed by the insects, which are known for their aggressive behaviour and painful stings.

Responding swiftly, a team of four officers led by Sergeant (PA) Kamarrul Bin Badarudin deployed to Jalan Suri in the late afternoon.

The unit travelled in a 4×4 ambulance equipped with protective gear and extermination tools. Upon arrival, they identified two nests lodged in the branches of a palm tree, one of which was described as being comparable in size to a household rubbish bin.

The officers donned specialised protective suits, commonly referred to as bee shirts, before commencing the removal.

The operation, which lasted around half an hour, involved controlled burning techniques to ensure the nests were destroyed without leaving remnants that could attract further infestations.

Authorities highlighted that no injuries were sustained during the procedure, and all equipment was returned in good condition.

The incident underscores the importance of rapid response in rural areas where agricultural activity often exposes workers to environmental hazards.

Large wasp nests are not uncommon in tropical regions, particularly near plantations where food sources are abundant.

Experts note that such nests can house thousands of insects, posing risks not only to farmers but also to nearby communities.

In Malaysia, similar cases have prompted public awareness campaigns urging residents to report sightings rather than attempting removal themselves.

The Civil Defence Force reiterated its commitment to community safety, reminding the public that emergency assistance is available through its district office.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Spaoh APM at 083-473006 or use the national emergency line 999 if they encounter dangerous wildlife or pest-related threats.

This latest case highlights the challenges faced by palm growers and rural communities in balancing agricultural productivity with environmental safety.

It also reflects the growing need for coordinated responses between local authorities and residents to mitigate risks posed by wildlife in populated areas.
