Wooden House in Kampung Tebaang Razed by Morning Fire, No Casualties

DARO, 5 May – A wooden house in Kampung Tebaang, Daro, was completely destroyed in a fire early this morning, but thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call at 8.32am, prompting a team from the Daro Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to rush to the scene.

According to JBPM’s Operations Centre (PGO) spokesperson, fire engines reached the location, approximately 16 kilometres from the station, at around 8.50am. Firefighters found the non-permanent wooden structure already engulfed in flames.

“The house was already 100 per cent burnt when our team arrived,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Our team used two 400-foot water hoses with two nozzles, drawing water from an open source nearby to control the blaze.”

The fire affected an estimated area of 36 by 108 square feet. Despite the size and intensity of the fire, firefighters managed to bring the situation under control by 9.30am. Full extinguishment was achieved at 10.58am.

Authorities confirmed there were no injuries or fatalities in the fire. The area was deemed safe after a thorough inspection.

This incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by residents living in wooden or non-permanent structures, especially in rural areas. Fire safety awareness and community readiness remain crucial in preventing such losses in the future.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
