KUCHING (27 May 2026): The spirit of unity and togetherness was clearly seen as YB Lo Khere Chiang joined the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations with residents across the N13 Batu Kitang area during a series of korban programmes held around Kuching today.
The community-based programmes gathered residents, mosque committee members, volunteers, and local leaders in conjunction with the annual Hari Raya Korban celebration, which is observed by Muslims worldwide as a symbol of sacrifice, compassion, and sharing with those in need.
As part of the celebration, YB Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang contributed a total of 23 cows for korban sacrifices to benefit the local Muslim community in several villages and residential areas under the Batu Kitang constituency. The contribution was welcomed by residents and organisers who described the gesture as meaningful and timely during the festive season.
Apart from the korban contribution, Lo also distributed Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds to several surau and masjids to assist with religious and community activities. The support is expected to help local committees carry out maintenance works, community programmes, and welfare activities for residents.
Among the locations visited by Lo during the Aidiladha programme were Masjid Darul Ehsan at Kampung Haji Baki, where he joined residents during the korban event and meat distribution programme.
He later continued his visits to several other locations around Batu Kitang, including Surau Nurul Ibadah, Batu Kitang Lama, and Kampung Lidah Tanah.
The visits also included korban meat distribution activities at Surau Darul Ansar, the jetty area at Lubok Buaya, Surau Nur Iman, and Surau Darul Taqwa.
Residents were seen working together during the preparation and distribution of korban meat, reflecting the strong community spirit that has long been part of Aidiladha celebrations in Sarawak. Many residents also expressed appreciation for the continued support and presence of local leaders during important religious and community events.
The programme also provided an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to gather and strengthen relationships through volunteer work and community activities. The atmosphere throughout the visits was warm and welcoming as families and volunteers worked side by side in ensuring the smooth distribution of korban meat to eligible recipients.
The Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration in Batu Kitang once again highlighted the importance of unity, cooperation, and mutual respect among the local community. Through programmes such as these, the values of sharing and caring continue to be preserved and passed on to future generations.
