GEDONG – The Youth Fun Celebration in conjunction with National Youth Day at the Samarahan Divisional Level 2026 was held with great enthusiasm at SMK Gedong on 13 May, drawing strong participation from students, youth groups, and the local community.
The event was officiated by Rodiyah Sapiee, with several notable figures in attendance including Abu Zaid Abu Bakar, Hamdan Bujang, Jamain Wahab, and Hasbi Ancheh.
Their presence underscored the importance of youth empowerment and community involvement in shaping Sarawak’s future.
Carrying the theme “Moving Youth”, the programme aimed to strengthen unity, leadership, and active participation among young people in community development.
The celebration also served as a platform to encourage youth to embrace healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and civic responsibility.
A variety of engaging activities were organised throughout the day. These included aerobic exercise sessions that promoted fitness and wellness, lucky draws that added excitement to the event, and briefings on ARPRM (related youth programmes and initiatives).
One of the highlights was the Samarahan Youth Convoy, which received enthusiastic support from participants and the wider community.
In her opening speech, Rodiyah Sapiee expressed hope that Sarawak’s youth would continue to be active, competitive, and visionary.
She emphasised the importance of integrity and leadership qualities in driving national development. “Youth must play an important role in shaping the nation’s future, becoming a generation with vision and integrity,” she said.
The celebration also reflected the collaborative spirit of the community, with local leaders and organisations working together to ensure the success of the programme.
The involvement of diverse groups highlighted the inclusive nature of the event, reinforcing the message that youth development is a shared responsibility.
National Youth Day is celebrated annually to recognise the contributions of young people and to encourage their active involvement in nation-building.
At the Samarahan divisional level, the Gedong celebration demonstrated how local initiatives can inspire and empower youth while fostering unity across communities.
By hosting the event at SMK Gedong, organisers ensured that students were directly engaged, providing them with opportunities to participate in meaningful activities and gain exposure to leadership and community service.
The programme not only celebrated youth but also reinforced the importance of education, discipline, and civic values in preparing the next generation.
The Youth Fun Celebration in Gedong stands as a reminder of the vital role young people play in Sarawak’s progress.
With continued support from leaders, institutions, and the community, such initiatives will help nurture a generation that is resilient, innovative, and ready to contribute to the state’s development.
