YSISS Sibu Awards Highlight Sarawak’s Drive for Inclusive Education

SIBU – The Sarawak Government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education was underscored during the inaugural Student Excellence Awards Ceremony at Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) Sibu, held on Friday.

The event, attended by around 250 students, parents and guests, marked a milestone for the school, which only began operations in 2025.

It showcased the state’s determination to ensure that quality education is accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic background.

Delivering the message on behalf of Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi reaffirmed that education remains central to the state’s development agenda. He emphasised that every child in Sarawak should have equal opportunities to succeed academically.

Dr Annuar highlighted the role of Yayasan Sarawak as a strategic partner in strengthening the education ecosystem.

Through targeted programmes and progressive initiatives, the foundation has been instrumental in bridging gaps and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.

One of the key initiatives celebrated during the ceremony was the Yayasan Sarawak Laptop Assistance Programme, which provided laptops to 53 students from B40 and M40 families at YSISS Sibu.

The scheme, offering RM3,000 vouchers redeemable at selected outlets, aims to equip students with essential tools for modern learning.

“This assistance reflects the government’s continuous efforts to empower students with the necessary tools to excel academically and adapt to the demands of modern education,” Dr Annuar said in his speech.

The ceremony also recognised outstanding student achievements, with award recipients praised for their dedication and perseverance.

Dr Annuar expressed hope that the recognition would inspire them to aim higher and contribute positively to society.

The establishment of YSISS Sibu is part of Sarawak’s broader education agenda, which includes expanding international-standard schools across the state.

The school’s first awards ceremony symbolises its growing role in nurturing academic excellence and preparing Sarawak’s youth for global opportunities.

Also, present were Mohamad Adzlin Ibrahim, Deputy Director (Operations) of Yayasan Sarawak, Dr Abdul Rahman Deen, Board Member of Yayasan Sarawak, and Noranne Adam Asim, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Sarawak International Education Sdn Bhd.

With inclusive policies, technological support, and recognition of student achievements, Sarawak continues to reinforce its vision of education as a cornerstone of development.

The YSISS Sibu ceremony not only celebrated excellence but also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to building a fair and inclusive education system for future generations.
