KUCHING – The 2026 Mayor’s Cup Golf Championship was held on Saturday as part of the Kuching Festival 2026 celebrations, adding a sporting element to activities marking the 38th Kuching City Day.
The tournament was officiated by Yang Berbahagia Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Mayor of Kuching North, during an event that brought together golfers, invited guests and senior officials.
Around 80 participants took part in the Open category of the championship. The event also attracted about 160 invited guests, reflecting the interest generated by the tournament as part of this year’s city celebrations.
The championship formed part of a wider programme organised for Kuching Festival 2026. The festival features activities covering several areas, including sports, culture, recreation, entertainment, religious programmes and community events.
By including the golf championship in the festival programme, the organisers provided residents and visitors with another opportunity to take part in activities connected with the Kuching City Day celebrations.
The event was organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), which has continued to include a variety of public activities as part of the city’s festival programme.
According to the organisers, the tournament is also intended to contribute to community engagement by bringing people together through sporting activities.

Among those present at the tournament was Lieutenant General Dato Mohd Sofi Md Lepi, Commander of the Army’s Eastern Field Command.
Datuk Khir Busrah, Senior Private Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, also attended the event.
Members of the DBKU Board and golfers were among the other attendees who joined the tournament and its related activities.
The participation of senior government and local authority representatives added to the significance of the championship within the wider Kuching Festival programme.
